Russel developed his love and appreciation of music from his parents, both of whom are professional classical musicians. His love for theatre began when he was taken to the opera at the age of twelve to see Verdi’s “La Forza del Destino” at the London Coliseum. But it wasn’t until he arrived in Milton Keynes that he thought about singing himself.
Russel has been a member of Music Makers of Milton Keynes, subsequently chairing the society for five years, and has performed with Milton Keynes Amateur Operatic Society, Milton Keynes Chorale, Milton Keynes Gilbert and Sullivan Society and Wolverton Gilbert and Sullivan Society.
His favourite roles have included Pooh Bah in The Mikado; Dancairo in Carmen; Molokov in Chess; Jack Meadows in The Arcadians; and Tancred in Follow That Girl. One of his proudest moments was singing a solo number in concert with Peter Karrie, the musical theatre star, twice voted the world’s favourite “Phantom”! His singing teacher is Richard Oliver of Performance Master.
Russel loves being part of the Milton Keynes amateur theatrical community, and particularly enjoys the privilege of singing with Heart and Music – making music with great friends whilst raising money for local good causes.
